Abel Tasman Coast Track
Abel Tasman National Park
10km out-and-back or 25km-35km one way.
When we have visiting trail runners the Abel Tasman Coast Track is the one absolute must do run. If short on time you could do a 10km out-and-back to Apple Tree Bay but you really are not getting the whole picture this way.
For the full experience you catch a water taxi from Marahau to either Bark Bay (25km return) or Awaroa lodge (35km return). In both cases, park at the Southern trail head and walk to the water taxi depot at the start of the day. Take some cash to buy espresso at Awaroa lodge. This entire section is not blocked by high tide though it is nicer to hit Torrent Bay at low tide and do the crossing rather than the extra credit to run around it. Starting further North than Awaroa requires planning around tide times.
Bark Bay has drinking water, toilets and picnic tables. Torrent Bay has toilets, drinking water and picnic tables after you pass through the private village (heading South). Apple Tree Bay is also a nice spot for a picnic stop. Toilet but no drinking water.
