Mount Arthur Loop
Kahurangi National Park
17km out-and-back or 25km loop with about 1000m of gain
At about 900m above sea level the Flora car park is the highest trail-head in Kahurangi that you can drive to. Note that it is a steep road and off-road vehicles are recommended. From here it is a 3.4km easy track to the Mt Arthur Hut. This is followed by an exposed ridge all the way to Mt Arthur with a steep scramble near the finish. Return via the same ridge for some cruiser downhill ridge running. 17km out-and-back.
Alternately, return via Gordons Pyramid. The track across to Gordons Pyramid is rough, steep and slow going in places. Follow the poles North from the summit of Gordons Pyramid to the Cloustons Mine. From here a cruiser downhill track through the woods leads you to the old road which is followed back to the car park via Flora Saddle. 25km loop.
